“Happiness is not something ready made. It comes from your own actions.”
-H.H. Dalai Lama
Learning the tools to optimize your health, happiness and well-being is a process. First, we will decide which tools are the best fit I will teach you how to use each tool and we will create a practice schedule for you. Working together throughout this process, I will give you the support and knowledge you need to use these tools to improve your well-being and boost your happiness.
Every tool you learn builds the foundation for well-being, resilience, and happiness. My role is to teach, coach and support you during your process of change and integration.
Sessions consist of checking in, reviewing homework and your practice. If needed, we will make adjustments to the practice. I will explain the next tool, how it works, it’s benefits and how to practice it. The tools chosen are based on our conversations and on my knowledge and experience of what can benefit you.
How much practice time is needed? It varies but is based on the research results for each tool and your study schedule. For example, research shows that the most benefits arise when practicing mindfulness training for 30 minutes per session. Here are some of the wonderful benefits:
- reducing stress, depression, anxiety
- strengthening the immune system
- improved social relationships
- increased openness to experience
- increased conscientiousness
- increased happiness and well-being
Other tools may be scattered throughout your day, like offering a genuine smile to a stranger. Others may be practiced when alone, for example, a gratefulness practice.
A gratefulness practice that is practiced in the evening before going to bed may take 5 – 10 minutes. First, review the day, and find three to five things that inspire gratefulness. Writing these down in a notebook or journal can help strengthen the idea of gratefulness in your mind. Benefits of this practice are:
- Stronger immune systems and lower blood pressure;
- Higher levels of positive emotions;
- More joy, optimism, and happiness;
- Acting with more generosity and compassion;
- Feeling less lonely and isolated.
We do know that consistent practice creates a small shift in thought, and behavior that over time becomes integrated and natural. These small changes add up quickly creating confidence and positive emotions while boosting our self-esteem and well-being. As new neural pathways emerge from our practice, our new thoughts and behaviors promote further practice and growth. It’s a cycle of positive change.
To begin your practice, schedule your complimentary consultation and let’s discuss how we can work together to help you make changes in your life.
